The Gaspereau Mountain Community Food Forest
Thanks to the RCFNS and the Joan Feynman Climate Change Fund and our sponsor The Halifax Brewery Market for helping fund this project! We were able to plant more than 70 plants and trees in the Spring 2023 Food Forest Workshops. For the 2024 season we dug out an existing seasonal pond for rain collection and help to dig our new well.
Earthling Farm and Food Forest is home to a diverse collection of mixed fruit and nut trees that have been recently planted in 2022, 2023.We started this project to bring people together to learn, create and engage with the land and their food systems! Together we are improving soil health, plant and animal diversity and our local ecosystem. We see and feel the impact the Food Forest has on our environment and ecosystem and feel it is important for our climate to model these practices in our community.
2023 Season we worked on building the soil and planting the trees! We use permaculture techniques such as laying cardboard, adding nutrient dense compost, leaves and straw. We also integrate our pasture raised chickens to clear out weedy overgrown areas and enjoy the shade created by the trees canopy. We have planted more than 70 plants and trees in the 6 designated zones with medicinal and culinary herbs as ground cover.
Stay tuned for our updates on social media and our website for details on spring workshops!
